While looking for ways to use up the Halloween candy, I came across this great site for Candy Experiments. Here are some of the ones we did today:
Floating Letters -
Drop several M&M’s or Skittles in warm water.
Wait a few minutes.
A few M’s and S’s will float to the top
Hot/Cold Dissolving Race
Fill one cup with hot tap water and one with cold water.
Find two identical pieces of candy, like two Skittles.
Put one in each cup. Which dissolves faster?
Acid Test
Fill cup with water.
Add a spoonful of baking soda.
Drop in a WARHEAD.
The sour acid bubbles as it reacts with baking soda.
Oil Test
Microwave a Starburst until it melts.
(Caution—HOT!)
Let candy cool.
Look for waxy oil spots.

Fantastic idea! Thanks for stopping by Reading Confetti! Happily following you back!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun experiments! That's too funny that the M's and S's will come off like that. I hope you had extras for taste testing :).
