We've been doing lots of math lately with our leftover Easter jelly beans. The kids have been having fun sorting them, counting them, and creating math problems with them.
First, we went through and identified all the different colors and sorted them into piles. Then, the kids counted how many there were of each color.
Since the big kids were home from school, I paired them up with the little guys and gave them each a section of an egg carton with numbers written on them. They helped their partners count out the correct number of jelly beans for each section (or just checked their counting) and then counted how many there were total. They also made up addition and subtraction problems using the jelly beans.
Today, we sorted the jelly beans again and worked on our colors. The little ones were given mats so they could match up the jelly beans to the colors on the mat.
The kids had a great time, and I got two more bags of jelly beans out of the house without anyone gorging on sugar!!
