U for Umbrella - A Rainy Day Craft

This fun craft kept the kids entertained when it was too rainy to go outside.

1.  First I had the kids use watercolors to paint their white papers to give it a "rainy day" feel.

2.  While their pictures dried, we reviewed the letter U.  We made the letter with our arms, practiced making it in the air, drew it on wipe boards, and went over the letter sound.  Then, some of the older kids worked on cutting out the letter 'U' and their umbrella shape.  I cut it out for the smaller ones and let them practice cutting strips of paper.
3.  When the pictures dried, we glued on our letter Us and our umbrella tops and I wrote 'U is for Umbrella' on their papers.

What other letter activities to use to introduce your kids to letters and sounds?
